Viola Davis leads the cast in the upcoming epic, The Woman King; based on the true story of  the Agojie, also known as the Dahomey Amazons, who were the all female miĺitary regiment of the Dahomey Kingdom (now the Republic of Benin) who served as protectors of the Kingdom and bodyguards of the King in the 1700s to 1904. 

 In the film,  General Nanisca (Davis), trains a new generation of warriors to fight against an enemy who threatens their way of life. Also starring is John Boyega as King Ghezo (1818-1859), Thuso Mbedu as Nwawi, Angelique Kidjo, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, and Jimmy Odukoya. 

It is set to be released on the 16th of September, 2022.
