Happy birthday, Alhaji Lateef Jakande

 

Happy posthumous birthday to Alhaji  Lateef Kayode  Jakande; born on the 23rd of July, 1929. The first civilian Governor of Lagos State, Nigeria from 1979 to 1983, he provided free primary and secondary education,  low cost housing, established the Lagos State University (LASU) and the Nigerian Institute of Journalism. Before then, he served as the first president of the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN) and  Editor- in- Chief of the Nigerian Tribune.
