PHOTO OF THE WEEK: Professor Soyinka Receiving the Nobel Prize

On the 8th of December, 1986, Professor Wole Soyinka- Nigerian playwright, novelist, poet and essayist- received the Nobel Prize for Literature at the Stockholm Concert Hall in Sweden.

Professor Soyinka is the first African to be awarded a Nobel Prize; and received it  as a proud African. Instead of the customary formal white tie or  a tuxedo,  he showed up at the venue in  traditional Yoruba attire- staying true to himself and his identity.
