"Citation" Bags Award

Kunle Afolayan's 2020 drama Citation bagged the Best International Film award at the recent National Film Festival (NFF) in the U.K. The director/producer shared the good news on his Instagram page:
"I am glad we got recognised without even lobbying."
Citation focused on the recurring problem of sexual harrasment and rape in tertiary institutions and is based on true events. Shot in Nigeria and Cape Verde and noted for its use of Yoruba, French, Portuguese and Wolof, it starred Temi Otedola, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Joke Silva, Yomi Fash-Lanso, Ini Edo, Gabriel Afolayan, Ivorian filmmaker, Bienvenu Neba and motivational speaker, Ibukun Awosika as herself. Veteran actor/broadcaster Sadiq Daba made his final film appearance as Professor Yahaya, before passing away the following year. In 2021, Citation won Best Soundtrack at the African Academy Film Awards and is a much watched film on Netflix.
