Oscars 2026: Highlights


The 2026 Oscars, held on Sunday, can only  be described as a night of  history, glamour, achievements, & rememberance. The height of the happy evening was seeing "Sinners" win several much deserved awards, along with other works & creatives. 


Highlights:


- Michael B. Jordan made  history by emerging the 6th African-American to win the Best Actor Oscar for his dual performance as twins  in the horror film, "Sinners"; paying tribute to his mother, the late Sir Sidney Poitier (1st winner), Denzel Washington (2nd winner)  & the other actors who paved the way, also recieving a heartfelt hug from Leonardo Dicaprio. 

_ Ryan Coolger, bagging an Ocar for Best Original Screenplay for "Sinners", the second African-American to win since Jordan Peele ("Get Out") in 2018. This Oscar is in addition to his BAFTA, Writers Guild & Critics Choice Award wins for "Sinners". 


-Ludwig Göransson winning Best Original Score for "Sinners". 


- Autumn Durald Arkapaw for Best Cinematography for "Sinners", the first woman of colour to win this. 


-Irish actress Jessie Buckley winning Best Actress for her role as Shakespeare's wife in "Hamnet", the first Irish actress to win this. 


- The black comedy  "One Battle After Another", winning Best Picture;   its director, Paul Thomas Anderson, also  earning a Best Director Oscar& Best Adapted Screenplay.


- Sean Penn, who was absent, bagging an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for "One Battle After Another"


-75 year old Amy Madigan, (wife of fellow veteran, Ed Harris) winning Best Supporting Actress for the supernatural thriller, "Weapons". 





-Best Animated film Oscar going to "KPop Demon Hunters", beating "Zootopia 2". 



- A magnificent live performance, led by Miles Caton of  "Lied to You"- an orginal song from "Sinners"; with blues guitarist Buddy Guy, co composer & guitarist Raphael Saadiq and retired ballet dancer, Misty Copeland to a rousing applause  from the audience. Don't speak for other people next time, Timothee Chalamet




-The Memoriam segment, showcasing late  artistes which included:  director Rob Reiner ("Stand By Me", "When Harry Met Sally", "Misery") & his wife Michele, Diane Keaton ("Annie Hall", "Father of the Bride", "The First Wives Club"), Catherine O' Hara ("Schitt's Creek", "Beetle Juice", "Home Alone") & Robert Redford ("The Great Gatsby", "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid", "All The President Men", "The Way We Were"). Redford's "The Way We Were" co-star, Barbara Streisand sang a heartfelt rendition of the 1973's film theme song of the same name, (which won Best Original Dramatic Score & Best Original Song Oscars in 1974)  in tribute to him.
