Live-Action Remakes: Disney, Enough Already!

The late Walt Disney was all about entertainment and bringing joy to its fans via its iconic cartoon characters and animated films. Today, his legacy has been tarnished to what is now nothing but a money-grabbing organisation that is dangerously close to sinking even further. And it's no thanks to their string of live-action remakes of classic animated films that should have been left alone to begin with.

Beauty & The Beast and Cinderella were warmly received because the stories were given more depth, new songs and a more diverse cast. But then came the unnecessary ones; Dumbo  Lady & The Tramp, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid and its current offering, Snow White

Everything was wrong with that film.  It's bad enough a Latina actress was cast... and I'm NOT being racist here,  but speaking as a long-time lover of children's literature. Snow White's name had a simple and sweet reason for the choice, and then everything was changed to make some stupid political point. Rachel Zelger's remarks about the original film didn't help matters, it just put her in the wrong as she attempted to defend the Disney company's dubious decision for the change and her portrayal of the role. Don't get me wrong, Zelger is a great actress and hopefully,  will go even further in her career. But unlike  The Little Mermaid's Halle Bailey (who at least got the approval of Ariel's original voice actress), she was NOT right for the role and shouldn't have accepted it.

Besides that, there were the CGI dwarves, and that was because of Peter Dinklage's stance against dwarves playing 'fairy tale people' in films because it was an offensive stereotype. I get where he's coming from, if one looks at how he struggled to make it big in Hollywood. On the other hand, he had no right to speak for the other actors and actresses with dwarfism on the matter. The Game of Thrones alum worked really hard to get to where he is now, and bravo. However, with the use of CGI, thanks to his opinion,  he might as well have cost them future acting jobs and they did say so, including Jackass alum Jason Acuna, who actually wanted a role as one of the dwarves. Considering the original film was Walt Disney's very first full-length animated film, it should have been regarded as untouchable. This unnecessary remake no one wanted has been described as 'garbage', 'hollow', 'uninspiring', 'soulless', 'so bad' etc; a definite waste of money.

Disney, enough already. Stop tarnishing Mr Disney's legacy with these unwanted live-action remakes; they just don't capture the spirit of the originals. What point are you really trying or make, or is it simply that your writers have run out of ideas? There are many children's lit and other books that can be adapted, instead of this unwanted recycling. Personally,  I'm definitely NOT  looking forward to Moana or Lilo & Stich! Just no.

No more live-action remakes, please.
