Born on this day in  1949, Lionel Richie was a member of the soul and funk group- the Commodores- before going solo in 1982, his albums giving him the status of one of the greatest music artistes of all time.

Proficient on the piano, Lionel Richie has left his stamp in the music industry for many years with his love-themed ballads and dance songs- including collaborating with the late Michael Jackson in writing the USA FOR AFRICA charity song, We Are The World, which was sung by various music stars, which sold a whopping 20 million copies worldwide.
