Veteran Nollywood actor, lawyer and former Delta State Commissioner of Culture and Tourism Richard Mofe-Damijo took to Instagram to convey a loving message to his wife on their 16th wedding anniversary yesterday. RMD found love with the former AIT Lunch Break presenter, Jumobi Adegbesan a few years after the death of his wife in 1996; journalist and Mee & U talk show host Mary Ellen Ezekiel Mofe-Damijo. He and the current Mrs. Mofe-Damijo got married in 2000; the wedding officiated by Pastor Chris Okotie. His message to her:

“Jumobi to the world, Aabike to me. The mother of my kids, love of my life, my rock, my shield, my baby, my woman, my everything. I want to say thank you but that’s not enough, I want to say I love you that’s still not enough, I want to say God bless you and that also seems inadequate for all you have been to me and the kids.
“You have kept me grounded, loved me unconditionally, prayed with me and for me and gone without to ensure I shine. You know how when close friends and family ask “How is bros?” and you respond with “He’s there, I still haven’t killed him in his sleep yet” they laugh at the humour but I smile with admiration because I know the truth. The truth is that you have consistently tolerated me and all my excesses and for that I am extremely grateful.
“I don’t know how I would have done all I have done and I’m doing without your support.
“Thank you for deliberately taking a back seat to make me shine.
“You know baby, God has put to shame those who said we wouldn’t last. It’s amazing how far we have come. 16years and counting ain’t bad is it now?
“Yea, I know they are not enough but I’ll still go ahead and say THANK YOU, I LOVE YOU and GOD BLESS YOU my ABK. Happy wedding anniversary baby.”

Wishing the couple many more years together!

After the sad news of George Michael, Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds’ passing, comes the happy news of new life. Singer Pink gave birth to a baby boy on Boxing Day, her second child with husband- Carey Hart- with whom she has a daughter, 5 year old Willow Sage Hart. Pink announced her son’s (Jameson Moon Hart) happy arrival via Instagram.

Congratulations Pink and Carey!!!

Barely a day after losing her daughter, Debbie Reynolds, one of the few remaining members of Old Hollywood, passed away after a stroke. The veteran actress was 84.
Debbie Reynolds rose to fame after her first leading role in the classic 1952 movie, Singin’ In The Rain; co-starring with the late film and music legend, Gene Kelly. She married three times; her first husband was singer Eddie Fisher, with whom she had two children- Carrie and Todd. Fisher later left her to marry her best friend- fellow actress, Elizabeth Taylor. Reynolds however forgave and reconciled with Taylor several years later.

Her other notable films includes How The West Was Won (1964), The Unsinkable Molly Brown (1964) where she played the memorable Titanic survivor Molly Brown and The Singing Nun (1966). She starred in her own T.V show, The Debbie Reynolds Show in 1969, receiving a Golden Globe nomination. She also made guest appearances in The Golden Girls, Wings, Will & Grace, starred in a Broadway revival of the musical Irene, for which she was nominated the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical. In May 14, 2016, she and her daughter Carrie Fisher featured in the documentary, Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds.
Reynolds was also a successful businesswoman, an avid collector of film memorabilia and headed several charitable causes. She is survived by her son, Todd Fisher and granddaughter, Billie Lourd.

Life is both faith and love. Without faith, love is only one dimensional and incomplete. Faith helps you to overlook other people’s shortcomings and love them as they are. If you ask too much of any relationship, you can’t help but be disappointed. - Debbie Reynolds in 1964.

In 1977, she made her first appearance as Princess Leia in Star Wars, starring with Hamill and Ford in the sequels- The Empire Strikes Back in 1980 and The Return of The Jedi in 1983. Fawlty Towers' Andrew Sachs Dead: Co-stars Pay Tribute

British actor Andrew Sachs- best known for his comic role of the hapless and English challenged Spanish waiter Manuel in the 70s British comedy series, Fawlty Towers- has died. Sachs, who was 86 at the time of his death, struggled with vascular dementia; a disease which forced him to retire from public life after several years in television, film and radio. Sachs will be especially remembered for Manuel's catchphrase, "Que?"
His wife, Melody Sachs, told the Daily Mail: “It wasn’t all doom and gloom; he still worked for two years [after his diagnosis in 2012]. We were happy, we were always laughing we never had a dull moment.
“He had dementia for four years and it wasn’t very pleasant. We didn’t really notice it at first until the memory started going."

John Cleese, who created Fawlty Towers with his ex wife, Connie Booth, and played his manic employer - Basil Fawlty- paid tribute to Sachs.
"Just heard about Andy Sachs.Very sad.... I knew he was having problems with his memory as his wife Melody told me a couple of years ago and I heard very recently that he had been admitted to Denham Hall, but I had no idea that his life was in danger.
"A very sweet gentle and kind man and a truly great farceur. I first saw him in Habeas Corpus on stage in 1973. I could not have found a better Manuel. Inspired."
Fawlty Towers co-creator Connie Booth, who played the waitress/ receptionist Polly in the series, had this to say about her late co-star.
"People say that nobody but John could have played Basil; it's just as true that nobody but Andrew could have played Manuel, even though there was a time when Andrew, who was German by birth, wanted to play the character in German. The character became iconic."
She remembered one classic Fawlty Towers scene in which Manuel sets the hotel kitchen on fire. Despite the protective jacket he was badly burned.

"In that moment of panic and pain, Andrew remained calm... And again, in another scene when John whacked him on the head with a frying pan, he ended up slightly concussed but showed no pain," she said.
"It reminds me of my first question to Andrew about what makes something funny. He used the example of slipping on a banana peel. If an actual person slips on a banana peel, he said, we're concerned for him. To be comic, the audience must instinctively know he's hasn't been hurt, that he's OK. Off-stage or on, I never saw pain in Andrew."
Samuel West, son of Prunella Scales who played Mrs Sybil Fawlty, added:
"Creator of one of our most beloved EU migrants. Such warmth and wit; impossible to think of him without smiling."
Sachs died on Thursday December 1st, 2016 and was buried the same day.
Born Andreas Siegfried Sachs in Berlin, he and his parents (his father was Jewish) fled Nazi Occupied Germany in 1938.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, three children and a granddaughter.

King Kong Coming Next March

Merian C. Cooper's  legendary gigantic gorilla once again comes to life, except this time- the upcoming adventure movie   focuses  on King Kong's origins- something the earlier adaptations did not touch. It is a reboot of the King Kong franchise and serves as a second installment of the Godzilla-Kong film franchise, the first being  2014's Godzilla.

In the  original story line,  a filmmaker (Robert Armstrong) hires a down on her luck young woman (Fay Wray)  as his leading woman in his new film- which is to be shot at a remote exotic island- called Skull Island.  In the course of time, the young woman, Ann and the chartered ship's first mate, Jack Driscoll (Bruce Cabot) fall in love.  Ann is later kidnapped by the natives after the Captain refuses to exchange her for six native women; and offered as sacrifice to King Kong. She is rescued and Kong is taken to New York City; where he causes major havoc  until he's shot down by the military.

This served as the plot of the 1933 movie and the 2005 remake; the character of Jack Driscoll (Adrian Brody)  changed from the ship's first mate to a writer, who  later goes to rescue Ann (Naomi Watts) from Kong. Fray Wray, who played the original Ann in the original movie was offered a cameo, but she passed away before she could do so.

The 1976 adaptation was the film début of Jessica Lange who played Dwan, an actress rescued by the ship crew on their way to the Island to seek oil; falling in love with Jack Driscoll (Jeff Bridges)- a paleontologist along for the ride. Unlike the 1933 and 2005 adaptations- the final battle took place on top of the World Trade Center instead of the Empire State Building.

Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts; Kong: Skull Island stars Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman and Brie Larson. It is scheduled to be released in the United States on the 10th of March, 2017.

Jackie Chan awarded with long overdue Oscar

After being a force to be reckoned in the movie industry for  five decades, veteran martial arts actor, producer,  director  and singer Jackie Chan finally  received a much deserved Honorary Oscar at the 8th Annual Governors Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Tom Hanks, who co-presented the award with Chan's past co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Chris Tucker, had this to say:

"As you know, the Governors Awards are a chance for the Academy to recognize unique achievements across an artist's whole body of work, because Jackie Chan, the man who puts the 'Chan' in 'Chan-Tastic,' has worked mostly in martial arts films and action comedies, two genres that have been, for some reason, shall we say, historically underrepresented at the Oscars, a fact that will change if I have any pull on the board of Governors."

"Great acting comes in many different forms, but if you are an actor you always know it when you see it. Jackie Chan's films have been incredibly serious, sometimes gruesomely so, as well as incredibly hilarious delighting millions of people around the globe."

Born Chan Kong-sang on the 7th of April, 1954, Jackie Chan began his career as a stuntman in two of late  martial arts icon Bruce Lee's movies- Fist of Fury  (1972) and Enter The Dragon (1973)

After starring in several Hong Kong movies by Golden Harvest- (the last one being 1998's Who Am I?, Chan made a breakthrough in the American market with Rumble in The Bronx in 1995.

The third installment of his  film Police Story, more known as Super Cop in the States came out in 1996 but his biggest breakthrough was in 1998, when he co-starred with American actor Chris Tucker in the critically acclaimed Rush Hour, reprising his role of Inspector Lee in Rush Hour 2  (2001) and Rush Hour 3  (2007).  His other films include Shanghai Noon (2000) , The Tuxedo (2002), Shanghai Knights ,  The Medallion (2003) and the 2010 remake of The Karate Kid.

Beauty & The Beast's Official Trailer

For many years, Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont’s classic ‘tale as old as time’ – La Belle et la Bête – (abridged from Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve’s original story) has been retold in literature, media and theatre, delighting generations of fans across the world.

In Beaumout's abridged version Belle, or rather, Beauty (Belle being French for Beauty) was the youngest of six children-consisting of three brothers and two sisters- of a merchant who lost his fortune and were forced to move from their mansion in the city to a humble cottage in the country. On the merchant's journey back( after failing to retrieve his seized cargo), he lost his way during a storm  and came upon a castle, whose doors magically opened for him. After a good dinner and a good night's sleep, the merchant came across a magnificent rose garden. As Beauty had requested for a rose(unlike her sisters who asked for jewels and clothes), he plucked one... which turned out to be a mistake,  as it incurred The Beast's fury, suddenly appearing before the terrified man. As a condition in exchange for his life, he's allowed to take the rose to Beauty and other gifts but demanded that he returned with her. Beauty hears of the deal and insists on it be met... and the tale really begins to unfold  and then later ends on a happy note.

The Disney animated musical version was released in 1991; the memorable scene with Belle and the Beast waltzing across the ballroom in the castle and its main soundtrack, Beauty and The Beast (which won an Oscar for Best Original Song) adding to its popularity and earning it a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture- Musical or Comedy, the first animated film to be nominated and win such.
Following last year’s successful live action remake of Cinderella, Disney is set to release Beauty and the Beast on the 17th of March, 2017; starring Harry Potter alumni Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as The Beast, Luke Evans as the villain Gaston and Kelvin Kline as Belle’s papa, Maurice.

"The Sound Of Music" Actress, Charmian Carr Passes On

Charmian Carr, best known for playing the role of the eldest Von Trapp Child,  Liesl in the 1965 musical movie, The Sound of Music has passed away, following a battle with dementia, according to a notice on her official website. Carr was 73.

Born Charmian Farnon, Charmian was actually 21 when she starred in the  movie and became known for singing one its most famous songs, 'I Am Sixteen Going On Seventeen,' with an epic dance scene with co-star, Daniel Truhitte (Rolfe) and its  reprise with Julie Andrews. In 1966, she starred with Anthony Perkins (Psycho, Green Mansions) in a  T.V musical, Evening Primrose, before leaving the showbiz world.

Charmian ran a successful Interior Design Business, celebrities including Michael Jackson-who was a fan of "The Sound of Music" becoming her  clients.  She was also the author of two books, "Forever Liesl" and "Letters To Liesl".

2016 Emmy Awards Nomination List

This year's Emmy Awards- the 68th-  is scheduled to take place on the 18th of September, at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California.  Vesartile actor Peter Dinklage  might probably bag yet another Emmy for his role as Tryion Lannister in "Game of Thrones", the  same can be said for Kevin  Spacey for his villainous Macbeth-like role in "House of Cards".

In the Best Actress in a Drama Series Category, Claire Danes who plays Bipolar CIA agent Carrie Mathison , is up against "Empire"'s Taraji P. Henson and  "House of Cards"'s Robin Wright, so it's hard to tell who might emerge the winner.

And strangely enough, "The Big Bang Theory" star Jim Parsons,  "Orange Is The New Black"'s Uzo Aduba and "The Good Wife"'s Julianna  Margulies did not make this year's nomination list.

How many lies will be brought forth in "The Arbitration"?

REEL SUM UP: Directed  by Niyi Akomolayan, "The Arbitration" features O.C Ukeje as Gbenga;  a corporate executive who gets involved in a steamy affair with a beautiful employee (Adesua Etomi). But after the affair is called off, Gbenga gets the shock of his life when his ex-lover accuses him of rape. An arbitration panel is then set up to investigate the matter.

Cast also includes Ireti Doyle, Beverly Naya and veteran actor, Sola Fosudo and expected to hit Nigerian cinemas on the 12th.

So...  three sides to a story? When a person is accused of such a thing,  the truth usually lies between the  accuser and the accused, at least until a  witness shows up. Office romances aren't uncommon but usually ill-advised and apparently the movie's main protagonist will realise that. What led his lover to make such a terrible accusation in the first place? Before we assume it's out of spite or revenge, let's not forget most movies have tools to make the viewers see and believe things that turn out not to be true after all.

Hence if it really happened like Gbenga said, an affair, all we'll be waiting for is when Dara finally confesses. If not, then maybe it would really be three sides to the story in question.

"The Little Prince" in 3D

The computer animated version of Antoine  de Saint-Exupery's classic tale, The Little Prince was released in the U.S yesterday, August 5, 2016;  earning  positive reviews and a hefty $97.6 million, thus making it the most successful French computer animated movie of all time.

Ramsey Nouah expected to shine in "'76"

Since his debut in the cancelled T.V series, "Fortunes"-later renamed "Mega Fortunes" in the nineties, the Edo state born Israeli-Nigerian actor has been known for his "pretty boy" roles in various Nollywood movies; be he  the hero or the villain.  However, there were times he played more significant and memorable roles. He impressed fans especially in  the 2004 "Dangerous Twins"  where he played identical yet totally different twins, "The Figurine" in 2009 and "The Grave Dust" in 2015.
