Oscars 2024: Highs and Lows

The 2024 Oscars held last Sunday was hosted by talk show personality and comedian, Jimmy Kimmel and thankfully devoid of drama for the second time since  Will Smith's disgraceful behaviour.

Happily, aside from the several  satisfying wins...

Cillian Murphy winning Best Actor for "Oppenheimer"

Robert Downey Jr winning Best Supporting Actor (yay!!!)  for "Oppenheimer"

Emma Stone winning Best Actress (her second) for "Poor Things"

Da'Vine Joy Randolph winning Best Supporting Actress for "The Holdovers"

the absolutely talented Billie Eillish winning (for the second time) Best Original Song for the Barbie movie soundtrack, "What Was I Made For", along with her brother, Finneas O'Connell.

There were other highs of the star-studded event as well as the lows.

The lows...

Several beloved actors and actresses who passed away omitted from  'In Memoriam' which included "Three's Company" and "Step by Step" alum, Suzanne Somers, "Rocky" alum Burt Young, and ace producer/TV writer Norma Lear noted for creating "All in the Family" and its spinoffs. Come on!

John Cena appearing on stage to present the Best Costume Oscar... naked. The guy has abs but still.. eww.

Robert Downey Jr initially not acknowledging  former child actor and last year's Best Supporting Actor winner  Ke Huy Quan, (The Temple of Doom, The Goonies, Everything, Everywhere All At One) who read the envelope and presented him with his Oscar.

The highs...

The biggest high has to be "Twins" and "Junior" co-stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito reuniting to present the Oscar for  Best Visual Effects. Another thing the two veterans have in common is playing Batman villains, in separate movies. DeVito played The Penguin in Batman Returns, while Schwarzenegger was Dr. Freeze in Batman and Robin. Hence, both have a beef with Batman and hilariously sort him out in the audience, the camera falling on arguably the best actor to play the dark knight... Michael Keaton (Batman and Batman Returns),  who gave the two a stony smirk and 'bring it on' hand gesture to much laughter. WATCH VIDEO

Andrea Bocelli and his son Matteo giving a heartrending and very beautiful performance of "Time to Say Goodbye" during the "In Memoriam" segment. WATCH VIDEO
