Fans and Colleagues Mourn Racheal Oniga



Last Saturday brought about another wave of grief in Nollywood; with the news of Racheal Oniga's death. The  veteran Nigerian actress, according to reports, passed away on the 30th of July, 2021, from a heart related illness. Ms Oniga was 64 at the time of her death. 

Hailing from Delta State, Rachael Oniga starred in several Nollywood productions, her first Yoruba film being Tade Ogidan's classic Owo Blow (1-3) where she played the protagonist's mother. She also featured in other films including: Out of Bounds, Daybreak, Oduduwa, Sango, Above Death, Yet Another Day, The Royal Hibiscus Hotel, Power of Sin,  30 Days in Atlanta and many others; her final film was 2021's My Village People, starring comedian Bovi. 

Fans and colleagues have expressed their sorrow at the loss of the veteran actress on social media, notably Patience Ozokwo  (Mama G), Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Ejike Aseigbu, Joke Silvia,  RMD and Genevieve publisher, Betty Irabor. Representatives of the Delta State government and the Nigerian Intervention Movement (NIM) have also expressed their sorrow over her passing. 

Funeral arrangements are  yet to be announced by her family.
