Remembering D' Angelo (1974-2025)
The R&B artist and neo-soul innovator passed away on the 14th of October after battling pancreatic cancer. He was 51.
During his music career, D'Angelo (Michael Eugene Archer) released 3 studio albums: Brown Sugar, Voodoo & Black Messiah. Voodoo won Best R&B Album at the 43rd Grammy Awards in 2001, while Black Messiah won Best R&B Album at the 58th Grammy Awards, its 5th track, "Really Love", earning a Best R&B Song Grammy in 2016. Voodoo's third single, "Untitled (How Does It Feel)" won Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, best remembered for its memorable- and controversial- music video.

D'Angelo also had several tours and collaborated with various artists, including Angie Stone, Lauryn Hill and Femi Anikulapo-Kuti. He co-wrote and produced B.M.U.'s only song, U Will Know, which served as a soundtrack for the 1994 film, Jason's Lyric.
He's survived by his 3 children. His first son, Michael Archer II, is also the son of singer/actress Angie Stone, who passed away in a car crash on the 1st of March.
