The late Taiwo Micheal Akinkunmi was 23 years old when he won the flag design competition, his entry chosen as the new National flag of Nigeria to replace the Union Jack as the country embraced the new era of Independence. He was dubbed 'the flag man'. The two green stripes represent the natural wealth of the country, while the white stripe in the middle represented peace and unity.
Mr Akinkunmi passed away on the 29th of August, 2023, and he will be forever remembered for his historical contribution.
