Richard Roundtree Passes on at 81
Fans and colleagues mourn the demise of veteran actor and singer, Richard Roundtree, who passed away on the 24th of October, 2023. He was 81.
Roundtree was regarded as the first African American action hero, for his portrayal of private detective John Shaft in the 1971 blaxploitation film, Shaft and its sequels; based on Ernest Tidyman's novels. Roundtree reprised his iconic role in the shortlived T.V series and the millenial sequels, Shaft and Shaft. He was also among the enseamble cast of Roots in 1977 and appeared in several television shows, including playing Gabrielle Union's father in "Being Mary Jane".
His post 'Shaft' roles included 'Manic Cop', 'Se7en', 'Once Upon a Time... When We Were Colored', 'What Men Want' and 'Haunting of the Mary Celeste.' He is survived by his 5 children and 2 ex wives.
