Oscars 2022: Will Smith Wins Best Actor Award

 At the recently held 94th Academy awards held yesterday at the Dolby Theatre, California, Will Smith made history by emerging as  the 5th African American actor to win the Best Actor Oscar for his role as Richard Williams (father and coach of the Williams sisters) in 'King Richard', which previously earned him a Golden Globe, SAG award and a BAFTA.  His African American predecessors for the Best Actor Oscar were: 

- Sidney Poitier for 'Lilies in the Field' in 1963 

-Denzel Washington for 'Training Day' in 2001 

- Jamie Foxx for 'Ray' in 2004 

- Forrest Whitaker for  'The Last King of Scotland'

 Unfortunately, the Fresh Prince's victory  wasn't the highlight of the evening, thanks to the  slap he landed on the award's host Chris Rock for making a joke about his  wife Jada Pinkett and was later called aside by veteran Denzel Washington, who was nominated for the same category for his dramatic role in 'The Tragedy of Macbeth'.

Smith  was eventually handed his award, which he accepted with tearful thanks but we all have to agree the slap forever ruined that historical moment.

9.  Best Director--- Jane Campion for 'The Power of the Dog'

10. Best Documentary Feature--- 'Summer of Soul (or...When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)'

11. Best Cinematography--- 'Dune'

12. Best Production Design--- 'Dune'

13. Best Costume Design--- 'Cruella'

14. Best Editing--- 'Dune'

15. Best Makeup and Hairstyling--- 'The Eyes of Tammy Faye'

16. Best Sound--- 'Dune'

17. Best Original Song--- 'No Time To Die' by Billie Eillish & Finneas

18. Best Visual Effects--- 'Dune'

19. Best Original Score: 'Dune' by Hans Zimmer 

20. Best Live Action  Short Film--- 'The Long Goodbye'

21. Best Animated Short Film- 'The Windshield Wiper'
