Happy 80th Birthday, Olu Jacobs
While the 11th of July is Olu Jacobs' official birthday date, the veteran actor celebrated his 80th birthday at Glover Memorial Hall, Lagos with much fanfare on the 10th. The party was attended by several celebrities and politicians who hailed Jacobs with much deserved encomiums, his past achievements visually highlighted, along with stage and musical performances. The celebrant was all smiles all through the event as family and friends wished him a very happy 80th birthday.
Olu Bayewu Jacobs was born on the 11th of July, 1942 and studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in England. He and classically trained actress Joke Silva have been married since 1989 and run the Lufundo Group, a media/ production/distributional company. Aside from Nollywood films and T.V series- notably the detective series- The Third Eye (1990-1993), Olu Jacobs has featured in stage plays and non Nigerian works which includes Dogs of War, Ashanti, Baby: Secrets of the Lost Legend and Pirates. He served as the narrator in Ogunde: Man of the Theatre, a BBC documentary about the late Chief Hubert Ogunde, father of modern Nigerian Theatre.
Many more years for this cultural icon, for he's a jolly good fellow...which no one can deny, hurray!!!
