New Masquerade Actress, Lizzy Evoeme, Passes On At Age 81

 


Reel Illustrated  commiserates  with the family of Madam Elizabeth 'Lizzy' Evoeme, who passed away on Monday, 5th of May, 2024. She was 81 at the time of her death, surrounded by her family. 

The family's statement: 

"Friends, fans, colleagues, and the family of the legendary actress, Elizabeth Lizzy ‘Ovularia’ Evoeme, would like to notify the public, all those who loved her and her work in ‘The new Masquerade,’ of her passing. Elizabeth ‘Ovularia’ Evoeme will be dearly missed and was extremely loved by her family and also by you, her fans. We thank you all for your support and for respecting our privacy at this time. God bless you all and may our dear Elizabeth ‘Ovularia’ Evoeme rest in perfect peace, now and always.”

The veteran actress was best known for her role as Ovularia, wife of Chief Zebrudaya (played by Chika Okpala), in the rest NTA sitcom, New Masquerade; created by the late James Iroha, who played one of their houseboys, Gringory.

 Born in Calabar in 1942, Madam Evoeme was a cast member all through New Masquerade's original run and during its brief revival. She appeared as Ovularia in adverts for Panadol and Ajinomoto Seasoning. 

She also featured in  the Nollywood films,  Circle of  Doom (1993) and Festival of Fire (1997)
