Rafiki narrates the origins of an orphaned cub who eventually rose to become one of the greatest kings of the Pride Lands, Mufasa; to his granddaughter, Kiara.

The upcoming musical prequel and sequel of the 2019  adaptation of the original 1994 animated film is set to be released by Walt Disney Studios on the 20th of December, 2024. The voice cast has English actor Aaron Pierre as Mufasa, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as his brother Scar, South African actor John Kani reprising his voice role as Rafiki, Donald Glover and  Beyonce Knowles also returning as the voices of Simba and  Nala, Keith David as Masego, Mufasa's biological father, Anika Noni Rose as Afia, Mufasa's biological mother and  Beyonce and Jay-Z's daughter Blue Ivy Carter making her debut as Kiara, Simba and Nala's daughter and Mufasa's granddaughter. 

Directed by Barry Jenkins, the film will feature original songs from the multi-talented Lin-Manuel Miranda.
