PHOTOS: Bolanle Austen-Peters' Stage Production Triumphs In London
The two-hour musical play Wakaa! The Musical written by Tunde Babalola and produced by Bolanle-Austen Peters was performed at the Shaw Theatre in London, to a sell-out audience and earned rave reviews. Will Gompertz, the BBC Art Editor described the play as “soulful, colourful and dynamic” and having “a spirit and sensibility that is fresh and true”.
Conor Gaffey, Editor of 'Europe News Week', added, “the show has heart, energy and a great sense of humor, and received a standing ovation on the final night when Newsweek was in attendance.”
'Wakaa! The Musical the first Nigerian musical to make it to London's West End- is centered on the trials and struggles of young people in present day Nigeria and in the diaspora. It was previously staged in Nigeria and lauded by the Nigerian audience, who also approved of a previous Austen-Peters production, 'Saro'.
With this, it's really evident that the Nigerian Theatre is rapidly recovering its past glory.
