New 007, NOT New James Bond

The current buzz about 'Bond 25' currently filming centers round British actress Lashana Lynch; who to everyone's amazement is said to be the new 007. Are we going to see a slim lady in a skirt suit and heels in the iconic gun barrel sequence???!

Well, everyone should stop getting their panties in a bunch though, Lynch is NOT going to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond. Just because Doctor Who is now a woman- the 13th Doctor currently played by Jodie Whittaker- does not mean we are having a 'Jane Bond'. Rather, Lynch is playing Nomi- an M16 agent who has been assigned the code number 007, as Bond has finally retired from the service but gets called back to deal with yet another villain, played by Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody). And apparently, Bond will be immediately smitten by Nomi, who wisely does not have time for him after hours, if you know what I mean.

These days, movies, particularly long-running franchises,  have been trying to add a bit more diversity to the cast.  The lovely Naomi Harris replaced Samantha Bond as Moneypenny in Skyfall and Spectre, and we were treated to a black Felix Leiter (Jeffery Wright) in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.

While we are all for diversity, some roles should remain canon. Idris Elba is rumoured to be the next Bond, but seriously...  no-no; even a long-standing James Bond fan like me have to put my foot down on that, yet I'm still torn. The world is changing, after having to put up with whitewashed roles for so long- diversity is a welcome change and I'm all for it.
BUT... within reason.  'Bond 25' is Daniel Craig's final stint as Bond (or so he says)- so once the movie comes out and sells, the search for James Bond number 7 will be on.

Lashana Lynch's acting credits include Captain Marvel, Still Star-Crossed and Brotherhood.
