The classic American police series starred the late William Conrad as J.L 'the fatman' Mc McDabe, a former police detective turned District Attorney,  Joe Penny as his investigator Jake Styles and Alan Campbell as McCabe's assistant district attonery Derek Mitchell.

The series was a spinoff of the creators' law series, "Matlock" ; (Mcshane initially) and Derek first appearing  in the 2 part  Matlock episode, "The Don", which served as its backdoor pilot. The series ran for 5 seasons, changing its location from Los Angeles to Hawaii in Season 2 then returning to L.A a few seasons later.
