Durodola Ladipo (1926-1978) was a Nigerian playwright, actor, producer and dramatist whose stage plays were mostly based on Yoruba mythology and were later adapted to television and cinema. His most famous play, "Oba Ko So" (The King Did Not Hang) tells the story of how Sango, the third Alaafin of Old Oyo empire, became the god of thunder and earned international acclaim at the first Commonwealth of Arts in 1965. "Oba Ko So" was first staged in 1963 at the Mbari Mayo Club in Osogbo, followed by a performance at the German Cultural Centre in Lagos the same year.
