Kunle Afolayan's period film, "Aníkúlápó" has been globally ranked as the No. 1 foreign film on Netflix; as it has been viewed 8,730,000 hours between October 3 and October 9, 2022. Afolayan made the trumphant annoucement on Twitter and Instagram; thanking fans for their support.
"Aníkúlápó", which means " To have death in one's pouch" premiered on Netflix on the 3oth of September, 2022. It stars 2010 Gulder Ultimate Search winner (and co-host of 2021 edition) Kunle Remi, Bimbo Ademoye and an ensemble cast which included Taiwo Hassan, Sola Sobowale, Sunday Omobolanle, Mr Macaroni, British Nigerian actor
Hakeem Kae-Kazim and Eiyemi Afolayan (daughter of Kunle), making her feature film debut. Set in 17th century Oyo, a traveller finds himself in possession of a great power, after cheating death. The film has received rave reviews from fans and critics.
Director Kunle Afolayan has hinted there may a sequel.
