'Dune' Release Date
The latest adaptation of Frank Herbert's 1965 science fiction book Dune - the first of the 'Dune' novel series, stars Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides , Oscar Issac as his father, Duke Leto, Rebecca Ferguson as his mother Lady Jessica, Zendaya as his love interest Chani, Jason Mamoa as his mentor/best friend Duncan Idaho, Josh Brolin as Gunrney Hallek, his weapon's instructor and Stellan Skarsgard as the evil Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Dune is scheduled to make its debut at the 78th Venice International Film Festival on the 3rd of September 2021, and released in theatres in the States on the 22nd of October, 2021.
Dune (also called Dune: Part One) is reported to be covering the first half of its source material, hence the planned sequel, Dune: Part Two will cover the second half.
The first adaption was released in 1984; with Kyle MacLachlan as Paul Atreides (his first film role), Francesca Annis as Lady Jessica, Jurgen Prochnow as Duke Leto Atreides, Sir Patrick Stewart as Gurney Halleck, Richard Jordan as Duncan Idaho, Sean Young as Chani, Kenneth McMillan as the evil Baron Harkonnen and Sting as his nephew, Feyd- Rautha. Directed by David Lynch, it received a cult following but negative reviews from critics.
Dune was adapted as a mini series in 2000; with Alec Newman as Paul, William Hurt as Duke Leto, Saskia Reeves as Lady Jessica, James Watson as Idaho, P.H Moriaty as Halleck, Barbora Kodetova as Chani and Ian McNiece as the Baron.
It was followed by the three part mini series, Children of Dune, in 2003; which covered the second and third books in the novel series- Dune Messiah and Children of Dune.
Dune and Children of Dune both aired on the Sci-Fi channel.
