Dave Chappelle Responds To "The Closer" Criticisms

American actor and stand up comedian Dave Chappelle has finally responded to the massive  backlash following his Netflix special, The Closer.

The Closer, which first aired on the 6th, features his views on transgender rights and identity, which  angered  the LGBTQ community and caused a walkout by Netflix transgender  employees who want the special removed from the streaming platform.

Chappelle's response to the backlash was to point out how criticisms of The Closer has made him lose his ability to communicate. He also said, via an Instagram video posted on Monday , that he's willing to meet with the Netflix employees demanding the removal of his special BUT on his own terms.

'You will not summon me,' he said. 'First of all, you cannot  come here if you have not  watched my special from beginning to end. You must come to a place of my choosing, at a time of my choosing. And thirdly, you must admit that Hannah Gadsby is not funny.'

Rodrigo Heng-Lehtinen, executive Director of the National Center for Transgender Equality, however noted Chappelle's offer does little to mend the present situation.

'The stakes are high, but sometimes those who are unfamiliar with real transgender people can't see or understand how harmful their words and actions are to those real people.'

Meanwhile, fans of Australian comedienne Hannah Gadsby, are already furious with Chappelle's reference to her; adding more fuel to the fire he started.

Some people simply don't know when to quit.
