Tina Turner Dies at 83


Tina Turner, the Queen of Rock, has died. According to reports, Turner passed away at her Küsnacht home in Switzerland. She was 83. Durimg her lifetime, she was one of the best-selling recording artistes of all time, bagging 12 Grammy awards. 
Born Anna Mae Bullock in 1939 in Tennesse, she was the youngest of 3 daughters. Her long career began in 1957, when she joined her first husband's band, Ike Turner and the Kings of Rhythm, debuting as Tina Turner with their smash hit, "Fool in Love." The duo got more popular with other songs which included "Shake a Tail Feather", "It's Gonna Work Out Fine" and "Proud Mary". 

Ike and Tina's marriage and partnership ended in 1978 due to Ike's domestic abuse. This was later documented in her memoir,  I, Tina ,  the updated version, My Love Story and Happiness Becomes You





Making a comeback as a solo artist in the 80s, Tina rose back to popularity with "Private Dancer", "Disco Inferno", "Simply The Best" and "What's Love Got To With It", which earned several Grammys. In 1973, Tina made her film debut with Tommy, her second film Mad Max: Beyond The Thunderdome, its soundtrack sung by her. She was one of the artistes who sang the USA For Africa charity song, "We Are The World" and participated in the Live Aid fundraising concert in 1985, at Wembley Stadium, London. She was the first  black female artiste to grace the cover of Rolling Stone magazine and was twice inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. 

In 2013, Turner married German music executive, Erwin Bach; with whom she'd been with since 1986. Her final on screen apperance was in the 2021 HBO documentary film, Tina

She is survived by Bach and her two adopted sons, Ike Jr. and Michael. Her youngest son Ronnie passed away 5 months back from cancer, while Craig took his own life in 2018.
