Netflix Announces New Sci-Fi Series: 'Altered Carbon'
Video Credit: Netflix
Adapted
from Richard K. Morgan’s cyber punk science
fiction novel, Altered Carbon is set some three hundred years in the future, where the
personalities of humans are digitally stored on digital implants (called “stacks”)
which allows the mega-rich to continually download them into their bodies (called “sleeves”) and live forever. The story
follows the main protagonist of the novel, Takeshi Kovacs, who will be initially
played by Will Yun Lee. In a flashback scene, where Kovacs and his sister Reileen
Kawahara (Dichen Lachman) are imprisoned, his consciousness is stored away and he
wakes up in a different body (Joel Kinnaman from then on). It turns out Kovacs’
freedom was actually arranged by a wealthy tycoon played by Rome’s James Purefoy who needs him to
solve the murder of his previous ‘sleeve’. Other cast members include One Life to Live alumni, Renee Elise
Goldsberry, Martha Higareda and Ato Essandoh.
Altered
Carbon is produced by Skydance Television and its ten
episode Season 1 will premiere on the 2nd of February, 2018.
