Classic Spiderman Animated Series

Spider man, Spider Man, does whatever a spider can...

Simply too catchy to be forgotten. I don't know about other Nigerians but this was the first super hero cartoon my siblings and I were treated to way back in the 1980s, aired primarily on LTV.  We would sit in the front of the television, singing the lyrics of the intro song as we wait for the week's episode to begin. Every other super hero (except for the Incredible Hulk, which was a life action series- ALSO aired on LTV) were discovered via comics, posters and lunch boxes until the early 1990s.

The best thing about the intro song is that it simply describes who Spiderman is, what he can do and his mission to help people in need. What I remember mostly is how Spiderman/Peter Parker  always kept up a monologue whenever he swung from one place to another across the city and the closeups of his and villains' faces doing asides. What I disliked was J. Jonah Jameson's rants against Spiderman, as, being a kid at the time,  I couldn't understand why he hated Spiderman so much, plus I found him creepy. Looking back at it after all these years, it's truly old school compared to the 90s series and the various versions that followed, but will always be a classic.

Lasting for only 3 seasons, it first aired in the States on the ABC Network  in 1967 and was the first animated series based on the popular Spiderman comics. We were treated to the 90s version (which also had a super kicking intro song) several years later, but this classic remains unforgettable.

Peter Parker/Spiderman was voiced by Canadian actor, Paul Soles who passed away at the age of 90 in 2022.
