Reel Naija: Films To Expect This September

 The number of Naija films to expect this September would probably increase after this post, but I ask my readers to roll with it for now. Ahem...

What we have on the lineup presently, 

Reel Sum Up: The story of Lisabi Agbongbo-Akala, the Egba folk hero who led his people in an epic uprising against the tyrannical Aalafin of the Oyo Empire. 

Written by Yinka Olaoye and  Niyi Akinmolayan (who is also the director), the upcoming Yoruba period film stars 'Ayinla' and 'Jagun Jagun' alum, Lateef Adedimeji, Gabriel Afolayan, Adebimpe Oyebade, Seun Akindele and Ibrahim Chatta. It is set to be released on September 27 on Netflix. However, its sequel, Lisabi: A Legend is Born, will be released in January 2025.

                                          

Reel Sum Up: A rising young football player has the golden chance of turning pro and being internationally recognised. However, he's torn between his dream career and the chance to help his family by focusing on his studies and winning a scholarship. What should he choose? 

Directed by Adeoluwa Owu, When Love Strikes stars Natse Jemide, Osas Ighodaro, Hubby Micheal, Sunshine Rosman, Ademola Adedoyin and Bimbo Akintola. It's set to hit Nigerian cinemas on the 13th of September. 

                                      

Reel Sum Up: 3 friends go about a desperate bid to emigrate to greener pastures... a.k.a America, and get more than they bargained for. 

Directed by Tony Abulu, American Japa stars Toyin Abraham, Ronke Ojo, Odunlade Akekola, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Bolanle Ninalowo, Jumoke Odetola and Segun Arinze. The movie is set to be released on the 6th of September. TRAILER 

Reel Sum Up: When a man and his son are attacked by an unknown gunman, the police spring into action to find the culprit. As the investigation unfolds, secrets and a web of betrayal are revealed. 
                                     

Directed by Titu Jeje, Loka stars Taiwo 'Ogogo' Hassan, Bimbo Oshin, Shakira Akinlolu, Ladi Folarin,  Kayode Adebayo and Yinka Smart. The movie will be released digitally on the Aree-AgoTV channel on YouTube on; 6th of September.
